Whitespace

A last-mile delivery route portal, live delivery map and driver app with proof of delivery.

Whitespace coordinates last-mile deliveries, and that coordination was spread across an orders list, a route map, route notes, driver chat, a status sheet and an exceptions tracker. We brought it together in one route management portal, a live map that ranks exceptions by severity, and an app for drivers.

Client / Product Overview

A last-mile delivery operator running routes from multiple depots, with coordinators in the office and drivers on the road.

Project Scope
Coordination workflow audit, UX and UI design, a route management portal, a live delivery map with exception handling, and a driver mobile app from route to proof of delivery.

Before

The Challenge

Route changes were made by hand, driver updates were scattered across chat, coordinators switched between too many views to see the day, and exceptions surfaced too late to fix.

Approach

From the problem to a direction

Strategy first, then the experience, then how it looks.

  1. 01

    Discovery / Strategy

We mapped a delivery day from both sides — the coordinator watching routes and the driver working through stops — and designed one system in which both see the same route, stop and exception as it happens.

  2. 02

    UX Approach

The portal opens on the day's numbers — routes, stops, on-time rate — then the route table, map, workload and at-risk routes. Exceptions are ranked by severity so the most urgent problem is always first, and drivers see only what they need at each stop.

  3. 03

    UI / Visual Direction

Bright royal blue and white for the portal and driver app, and a dark navy live map where teal, violet and orange routes and exception pins read at a glance.

The Build

Development

A web portal and a driver mobile app working from shared route data — routes and stops, driver progress, delivery status, exceptions and proof of delivery — so a change made in one place shows up in the other.

Key Features

  1. 01Route management portal with routes, stops, on-time rate and workload
  2. 02At-risk route monitoring
  3. 03Live delivery map with completed and delayed stops
  4. 04Exceptions ranked by severity
  5. 05Driver app with route, stop detail and customer instructions
  6. 06Delivery exceptions and proof of delivery from the driver's phone

The Result

Final Product

One portal for the operations team and one app for drivers, both working from the same live picture of every route.

Outcome

Results

Manual coordination fell 37%, exceptions get a response 29% faster, missed delivery windows dropped 24%, driver follow-ups fell 41%, and five separate views became one portal.

  • 37%Less manual coordination
  • 29%Faster exception response
  • 24%Fewer missed windows
  • 41%Fewer driver follow-ups
  • 5 views → 1Portal
